Discovery Tours

For families who like to do things together, there were the so-called "discovery tours" from 2017-2019. The "Explorer Tours" were a puzzle booklet for children aged five and up. Guided by various work-related tasks, it offered children and families the opportunity to independently explore the museums in the Pinakothek der Moderne and to get to know the multifaceted artworks in a playful way. Following the success of the first two themed tours, "Animals" and "Music and Dance," a third tour was offered starting in summer 2018 under the title "Menschenskinder." The unique selling point of this offer was that the tours were offered in up to six languages (German, English, Arabic, Spanish, Italian and French). The "Explorer Tours" were available free of charge at the information desk at any time during the museum's opening hours.

King's Lore

"King's Lore" was the 2018-2019 continuation of the successful museum education program developed for the "King's Class" exhibition at Herrenchiemsee Palace, which was offered during the summer months of 2018 to accompany the exhibition for which the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen was responsible. This unique project explicitly, but not exclusively, targeted people with little to no experience in dealing with contemporary art. Over the course of ten weeks, more than 125,000 visitors were greeted by six young art educators to create a deeper understanding of art on individual tours. Over 35,000 one-on-one conversations took place during this period. Numerous positive feedbacks prove that the direct and constructive exchange with the visitors was positively received throughout and promoted not only openness for the exhibits on display but also interest in the Pinakothek der Moderne.

Togetthere_Xperience

With experimental art education formats, the program between 2017-2019 pursued the longer-term participation of different and new visitor groups in art, design, and architecture. In 2019, the intensive and conscious sensual experience of art was a central theme that accompanied the exhibition "Raoul De Keyser" in several program units ("Stations of Deceleration"). Another focal point was the "Denkraum Deutschand," which took place for the first time in a temporarily used exhibition hall of the museum. The "Denkraum" invited social exchange about the political dimension of artistic work. In a third program module ("DialoX"), school students explored the differentiated address of the audience and tested this in the "Long Night of the Museums." So did the "Digital Art Salon," in which current cultural topics were discussed and streamed live.

DENKRAUM DEUTSCHLAND

For the fifth time, DENKRAUM DEUTSCHLAND – an interdisciplinary, deliberately low-threshold, educational and mediation project – is being held at the Pinakothek der Moderne.

For one week, creative artists and experts from a variety of different specialist fields engage with museum visitors on current socio-political themes.

DENKRAUM DEUTSCHLAND 2023 focuses on old age and intergenerational dialogue – a highly topical subject and an unrefuted fact: the people in Germany are becoming older and fewer. How are artists tackling this development? To what extent is a person’s experience reflected in a design? Where in architecture is space made for older people? And what role do different age groups play in museums?

A project by Miro Craemer in cooperation with the Education and Mediation Department of the Pinakothek der Moderne.

ArtWorkRoom (Yes, we’re open!)

“Yes, we're open!" – this expression truly captures the self-image of the intercultural workshop ArtWorkRoom. The initiative is aimed at all people and thus at the broadest variety of languages possible - not only spoken languages -but all forms of expression imaginable.

A whole spectrum of native languages might be heard in one group, however, even if you share the same mother tongue, an older woman, for example, will express herself differently and use a different vocabulary than a younger person.

2021 was a special year for the ArtWorkRoom. The five-year anniversary of this intercultural program was celebrated at the Kunstareal summer party. Over many days, the ArtWorkRoom facilitated informal meetings between strangers, as well as great fun in creative cooperation – finally in person at the Pinakothek der Moderne! Starting September 2021 the ArtWorkRoom could meet regularly once a month in compliance with the existing hygienic guidelines. Special exhibitions like Au Rende-Vous des Amis and the new X-D-E-P-O-T from the Neue Sammlung provided us with exciting starting points for conversations, common discoveries and design experiments.
