PIN.K CHILDREN CELEBRATE ART
CHILDREN CELEBRATE ART
Children Celebrate Art… is an open children’s program at the Pinakothek der Moderne for children between five and twelve. Since 2017 we have been inspiring the creativity of our young participants by exposing them to selected works of art. Experienced art educators guide the children in projects with weekly varying topics like animals or movement. The children are taken on a journey to the world of art, architecture or design – an adventure which simultaneously provides parents a chance to visit the museum at their own pace.
Due to last year’s lockdown and the closure of the museum, the program was offered as a weekly online workshop in the first half of 2021. The popular interactive workshops, despite this ‘contact free’ period, still led to digital encounters among the international participants. Children Celebrate Art… could take place in person in the summer months in the outdoor area of the museum thanks to the low risk of infection, and in the winter months, under strict observance of hygienic measures analogue indoors. In view of the positive experiences with the digital workshops, Children Celebrate Art… will now also be offered once a month online.

PIN. SUMMER PROGRAMM
KIDS SUMMER SCHOOL
Every year over several weeks, the Pinakothek der Moderne invites children to participate in a kids summer school. The kids discover art treasures, encounter original works of art and try out different kinds of art techniques. In good weather, trips to the Kunstareal as well as a whole range of different outdoor games are part of the program. The summer school culminates in an exhibition designed and presented by the kids themselves.
The Kids Summer School program is targeted at children from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds. Taking part in activities and experiences together develops a strong sense of community and promotes active exchange.
Further information can be found starting in May of each year on the Pinakothek der Moderne home page.
PIN. and the Pinakothek der Moderne thank the Stiftung Accanto and the Beishem Stiftung for their generosity in supporting the Kids Summer School.

PIN.OCCHIO
PIN.occhio
The art educational project PIN.occhio was initiated in the Pinakothek der Moderne in 2012 aimed at reaching children from socially disadvantaged families. The project’s goal is to offer children from six to ten playful access to art and to introduce them to the museum as a comfortable and natural place to meet, experience and to learn.
Participation in the program is free of charge, the children are found in cooperation with kindergartens in Hadern, Milbershofen, Trudering, Giesing and Hasenbergl, as well as in other Munich neighborhoods. The groups are invited to the exhibition rooms and the workshop of the Pinakothek der Moderne to discover the treasures in the museum’s four collections.
The sessions are designed to be like little adventures. The kids learn about artistic processes through experiments with color, materials and form. Coming face to face with original art works in the museum promotes creative expression and sensory experiences. Artistic processes strengthen social and cognitive skills such as perception, creativity and teamwork.
We produced a film during lockdown to virtually introduce the kids to the museum through practical games and exercises. Starting in the spring of 2021, PIN.occhio groups could be visited on site in their respective educational institutions and by October 2021, groups were allowed to visit the museum in person. The film itself is still being shown ahead of the kid’s visit to familiarize them with the museum.
PIN.occhio is made possible thanks to the Beisheim Stiftung, the Stiftung Pinakothek der Moderne and PIN.

PIN.A ART AND GAMES
ART AND GAMES
Art and Games is principally aimed at daycare centers with children between two and five whose first experience with the museum is facilitated through play. Due to strict hygienic measures, children’s groups were only able to participate in the project in person starting in the summer of 2021. Daycare centers which were unable to take part in the offerings due to the restrictions, could order Packages to Go free of charge which included a collection of stories as well as instructions for handicraft projects and games related to selected art works in the Pinakothek der Moderne. A series of five video films offered an additional possibility to introduce the children to the museum. Since April 2021, Art and Games has been open to the public so that young children accompanied by an adult may participate without a connection to a daycare center.
