Using unconventional objets trouvés such as toothpicks and bottle caps, in combination with concrete and other industrial materials the up-and-coming artist Chris Soal creates unique amorphic artworks that arouse associations with skin cells, animal skins, or tree saps. The works are a commentary on the relationship of tension between dependence on and the simultaneous destruction of nature. Soal’s understanding of sculpture is influenced by a devotion to material and a sensitivity for texture, light, and form, which finds expression in an abstract language.
