The history of PIN. tells of great pieces of art, risk disposition, private commitment and about the passion for the present. PIN.’s aim was and is to discover the contemporary and to make it accessible to a wide audience. PIN. was founded in 1965 as the “Galerie Verein”. By now, it supports two of Europe’s most significant art institutions in realising ambitious exhibitions, education projects and acquisitions for the collections: the Pinakothek der Moderne, which unites four museums under its roof, therewith allowing for unique and visionary synergies between architecture, design, graphics and moderns art; and the Museum Brandhorst with its pioneering collection of the 20th and 21th century. PIN.’s major purpose is to help the two closely intertwined institutions to maximise their attention and liveliness and to put their collections into ever new contexts.
For its nearly 900 members, PIN. offers an extensive program with approximately 70 events per year comprising guided tours, previews, studio visits, artist talks, lectures and art travels. For young art lovers under 40 years, the PIN. Young Circle offers an additional program. Furthermore, PIN. hosts the PIN. Party with benefit auction, which takes place every year in November in support of the Pinakothek der Moderne and Museum Brandhorst.
